Tbilisi - the heart of Sakartvelo
About this experience
This tour provides a comprehensive overview of the history, heritage, beauty, and diversity of Tbilisi. In the East, this city was considered the West, in the West - the East... A vital crossroads of the Great Silk Road, Tbilisi has always been regarded as the key to controlling the entire Caucasus, the heart of the Caucasus and of Georgia in particular. A unique place where you will witness the harmonious blend of Europe and Asia, Christianity and Islam...
"Nowhere else in the world will you find such ethnic diversity as in Tbilisi... Armenians, Greeks, Jews, Persians, Turks, Tatars, Muscovites, and Europeans..." - Jean Chardin, French traveler, 17th-18th centuries.
What to expect
- Tsminda Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral; The Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi is the main cathedral of the Georgian Orthodox Church. Relatively recently built, it has already become a symbol of the new era, its monumental silhouette crowning the city view.
- Metekhi - a historic district of Tbilisi on a high cliff with the Assumption Church on the left bank of the Mtkvari River, offering magnificent views of the old city and the Narikala Fortress.
- A leisurely walk through the newly restored Rike Park.
- "Tbilisi, my land of sun and flowers..." - as in the song of the great Georgian singer Gogi Tsabadze. We take the cable car up to the Narikala Fortress: a fantastic view, the entire Old Town at your fingertips.
- Narikala - a large fortress in Old Tbilisi. The exact founding time of the fortress in Tbilisi is unknown, but by the 4th century, it already existed and was called Shuris-Tsihe. Picturesque views of the whole city, unique structures on the rocks, clean mountain air high above the urban hustle and bustle - unforgettable!
- Descending to the area of the Sulfur Baths (Abanotubani), the cradle of the city. This is where the history of the city of warm springs begins, narrow passages with colorful facades, ancient legends. A walk to the Fig Gorge waterfall - the restoration works of 2011-2012 have partially restored the historical appearance of the city.
- Through the old streets to the main square of the Old City named after Vakhtang Gorgasali, better known to us as "Meidani". Here life was bustling, trade and industrial rows, entire streets of workshops, caravanserais for long-distance caravans, hotel courtyards, and famous taverns.
- Tamada - a charming monument in the Old City, already a trademark of the city, telling us about the extraordinary ancient origins of Georgian wine traditions. Wine is an important part of our culture, Georgian feasting is a spiritual ritual, a celebration of friendship and love!
- Sioni - historically the main church of Tbilisi and one of the two main churches in the Georgian Church; named after Mount Zion and consecrated in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Here rests our greatest relic - the Holy Cross of St. Nino, the enlightener of Georgia.
- Leselidze Street - the main artery of the old city, a former Armenian bazaar that has partially preserved its spirit and character.
- Anchiskhati - the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, the oldest surviving church in Tbilisi from the 6th century.
- Bridge of Peace - from antiquity to modernity. What will we leave to our children from the past and the future of the country? The city is alive, it is modernizing, but it is important not to lose the foundation, to stay true to ourselves.
This is just a brief list of the attractions that await you in the city of sun, flowers, and friendly locals. I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised by the dishes of our national cuisine, capable of delighting even discerning gourmets! Delicious, informative for cooking enthusiasts, and affordable.
