How could you not love Tbilisi!
About this experience
Noisy and colorful, contemplative and serene, mischievous and generous - I will show my city from different perspectives and help reveal its main talent: to give the feeling as if you are at home. The program includes the capital's landmarks, legends of bygone eras, acquaintance with Georgian cuisine in royal palaces, and much more!
What to expect
Walk through the ages
Journey will begin at the Metekhi cliff, near the monument to the founder of the city, Vakhtang Gorgasali. At the confluence of eras, you will learn about the inception, heyday, decline, and restoration of the capital. From the viewpoint near the 12th-century church, the Old City will open up before you, and I will tell you about its former glory, famous lace balconies, and impregnable fortresses. Hearing the legend of the Metekhi bridge, you will move to the oldest district - Abanotubani, where I will introduce you to the origins of Tbilisi, the history of sulfur baths, and stories of famous visitors. And, of course, there will be medieval temples and their legends in the program, including the legend of the miraculous Savior icon kept in the oldest temple - Anchiskhati.
Geographical discovery in the city center
In the Ingorokva Gorge, you will find petrified tree trunks, enjoy the coolness of a waterfall (yes, in the very center of the city!) on a hot day, and be able to touch the shackles of the Caucasian captive Amirani (Prometheus). Crossing the Bridge of Love will be a great opportunity to make a cherished wish.
Tbilisi's treasures
Georgia is inseparable from wine culture, so tastings are a must! You will taste wines from qvevri, and learn what it is and how Kakhetian technology differs from European in the local history museum, right on the excavations. Then, you will walk along the ancient streets to Meidan, listening about the legendary caravans traveling the Silk Road. I will show you the products and goods that were traded at that time and offer you to try or buy what Tbilisi offers its guests today - from real churchkhela to silver-inlaid horn cups for feasts.
Tiflis - a source of inspiration!
We will greet the joker flying out of the ancient brick wall - Sergei Parajanov and dive into the past with Mayakovsky, Lili Brik, Louis Aragon, Fellini, Yves Saint Laurent. And from there, it's not so far to the mythical Tamada - the characteristic Georgian figure deserves a separate conversation. You will also witness a mini-performance about the change and eternal cycle of time at Rezo Gabriadze's tower. Then we will move to the 18-19th century city, past the janitor Pirosmani, lamplighters, merry betrothed dressed in carnival costumes inviting you to join their merry circle.
Modern Tbilisi
Having walked around the Old City, you will move to another part of the capital across the Bridge of Peace. Going down its encoded rafters, you can sail on the Mtkvari (Kura) on rafts, just like real carachogels (a famous Tiflis estate). Next - head to Rike Park, resembling a map of Georgia. Here you will discover all kinds of entertainment for children and adults. Later, I will show you the place where, according to legend, healing water flows from the rock and tell the legend of King Irakli and his wife Darejan, whose palace stands here.
The path taken from above and lunch in royal palaces
Climbing to the ancient Narikala Fortress, closer to the Mother of Georgia, you will look at all the places that were revealed during the journey from Tiflis to Tbilisi and back. Here you will try to remember the verses of Russian poets about Tbilisi, learn new Georgian words, and rehearse the most popular toasts like a tamada. And afterward - head to the old royal palaces, where Georgian cuisine will put the final unforgettable chord in the hymn to the old and eternally carefree city that loves you and that, you probably already love too!
"Tbilisi - a city above storms and pauses
In it, the connection of times has happily not broken
Here even in ruins, determination is hidden
In destruction, there is indestructibility".
Organizational details
Lunch in a restaurant and a ride on the cable car to Narikala Fortress are paid separately - 1 euro (if you want to go up to Narikala not on foot, but by cable car).
