About this experience
Georgia is the oldest winemaking region in the world. Not visiting these places and not trying the wines means simply not knowing Georgia. In my tour, you will taste the wines of five unique producers in one day, completely different from each other, learn about their production nuances, and discover the history of this famous region.
What to Expect
Wine Production and Tastings
I will take you to wine factories and wineries (maranis) in Kakheti so you can get acquainted with the nuances of the technological production processes and see firsthand how and where grapes are grown, how wine and chacha are made. Wine and chacha tasting will be organized in Tsinandali, Telavi, Kvareli.
Famous Monasteries and Temples of Kakheti
We will visit the village of Shuamta, where fragments of the monasteries Dzveli-Shuamta and Akhali-Shuamta are preserved. You will see two completely different in architecture monasteries, built at different times: in the 5th and 16th centuries, respectively. Visit one of the earliest monasteries in Georgia - Ikalto, and see the academy where Shota Rustaveli studied. Visit the monastery and cathedral Alaverdi - the main and the most revered temple in Kakheti. St. George Cathedral - the second tallest in Georgia, the first among the surviving medieval cathedrals, and the tallest of the four "Great Cathedrals" (although the Bagrati Cathedral became 2 meters taller than Alaverdi after reconstruction). And enjoy the small picturesque Nekresi monastery, perched high on a mountain above the Alazani plain.
Potter's Workshop
Kvevri is a unique clay vessel for making and storing wine. The discovered oldest clay vessel of the kvevri type in Georgia dates back to 6-5 thousand BC. You will visit the potter's workshop and learn about the unique manual process of making kvevri.
Along the way, we will also definitely visit the town of Gremi - the capital of the Kakheti kingdom in the 16th-17th centuries.
