Kakheti: in search of Georgia's treasures
About this experience
During a trip to one of the most picturesque regions of Georgia, you will appreciate the beauty of vineyards and mountain ranges. You will taste homemade cheeses, honey, churchkhela, and bread from a traditional clay oven. Visit the ancient monastery of St. Nino. Take a stroll through the picturesque streets of Sighnaghi. And in the capital of Kakheti, you will have lunch at a restaurant and try several varieties of wine.
What to Expect
Before embarking on the journey, it is essential to fuel up! We will treat you to churchkhela, fruits, and tea.
Taste of Kakheti
- Manavi Village. You will visit a family-owned shop where locals gather honey, prepare adjika and Georgian sweets, including delicious churchkhela. You can taste all this without limitation. You will also admire the local vineyards.
- Badiayri Village. Visiting another family, you will see how Georgians bake bread in a traditional clay oven and make cheese. In addition to tastings, you can also learn how to make authentic Georgian village bread.
The Spirit of Kakheti
We will then head to Kvemo-Bodbe village, where a monastery from the 6th century is located. The sanctuary is dedicated to St. Nino, who brought Christianity to Georgia in the 4th century. It is one of the most revered shrines in the country. The complex is known for its beautiful churches, walls, and towers. You will get acquainted with the ancient architecture and history of the monument and feel the serene atmosphere of the place surrounded by mountain ranges.
History and Architecture of Kakheti
- Sighnaghi. You will visit the heart of the Alazani Valley and hear the legends of the city of love. Sighnaghi impresses with its architecture; many consider it the most beautiful city in Georgia. You will see churches, picturesque streets, and houses with red roofs that create a unique charm. Here lies the 18th-century Sighnaghi fortress—it walls replicate the outlines of hills and stretch for 4 kilometers. It is the largest citadel in Georgia.
- Telavi. The last stop will be in the capital of Kakheti, where we will have dinner in a traditional restaurant with its wine cellar and a magnificent view of the mountains. You will taste five types of wine, observe how the drink is stored, and learn about the traditional Georgian winemaking method, kvevri.
