About this experience
I will fascinatingly and casually tell the story of the Georgian capital, founded on warm sulfur springs. I will show its main attractions, secret corners, and help you feel how delicately elements of modernity are woven into the ancient city.
What to Expect
Sulfur Baths and Narikala Fortress
We will begin the walk with a visit to the famous Sulfur Baths, where you will hear the legend of the founding of Tbilisi and understand why the city is named as it is. Next, I'll show you the Fig Gorge, a picturesque waterfall, and tell you about the history of these places. You will also take a cable car ride to the ancient Narikala Fortress, learn the legends associated with it, and enjoy a breathtaking view of Tbilisi.
Metekhi Church and Modern Tbilisi
I will show you the Metekhi Church, located on a cliff above the Kura River, and the monument to the founder of Tbilisi, King Vakhtang Gorgasali. From the Old Town, we will make a "jump" to the new city. You will see the young Rike Park and the adjacent pedestrian Bridge of Peace—an amazing modern structure made of glass and metal. Afterward, we'll head to the Royal District, where I'll help you feel the charm of bygone times.
Anchiskhati Church and Rezo Gabriadze Theatre
You will take a closer look at the residence of the Patriarch of Georgia and visit one of the oldest churches in the country—Anchiskhati. You will admire the unusual design of the Rezo Gabriadze Puppet Theatre and, if you're lucky, catch the moment when the puppets come to life and announce the arrival of a new hour. Then, I'll show you the monument to the folk poet Ietim Gurji and the 7th-century Sioni Cathedral. Finally, you'll ascend to the legendary house on Betlemi Street and marvel at the grand entrance, adorned with mosaic stained glass.
