Walking Tour of Tbilisi
About this experience
Welcome to the capital of Georgia! I would be happy to take a stroll with you around the city, where every house and street has a rich history, and the picturesque balconies and whimsical facade styles paint the unique architecture of Tbilisi. You will get acquainted with the most important eras of the city, see its main sights, and learn about the Silk Road and caravan owners near the legendary sulfur baths.
What to expect
Old Town and Wine Talks - a great start to a walk around Tbilisi
We will start the tour from Freedom Square, the main square of the city, walk along Rustaveli Avenue and enter the Old Town through the former Dighomi Gates. I will introduce you to the history of Sharden Street, named after a French Catholic missionary - it now resembles the Champs-Élysées with numerous restaurants, cafes, boutiques, and salons. In a good wine shop with a 17th-century cellar, we will talk about the main Georgian drink - wine, and you will be able to taste it here.
Peace Bridge and Narikala Fortress
You will walk on the pedestrian bridge over the Kura River, built in 2010. The lacy lace of glass and metal is the symbol of Peace, connecting old and new Georgia, and sending signals of friendship and love into space (literally). And then you will ascend by cable car to the Narikala Fortress, which holds a long and very interesting history: the fortress existed as far back as the fourth century AD. In the 7th and 11th-12th centuries, it was expanded and controlled the trade routes along the banks of the Kura. Imagine how many events its ancient walls have seen!
Sulfur Baths District - to visit the origins of Tiflis
Undoubtedly, this is one of the most picturesque districts of the old city and therefore is often seen on postcards of Tbilisi. The famous Tbilisi baths once enchanted Pushkin and Dumas and still delight tourists and locals alike. Near the baths, I will tell you about the birth of the city, its name, and the legendary figures associated with the origins of the capital's development.
