About this experience
I invite you to travel along the Blue Route - one of the most beautiful routes in Cappadocia! Experience the whimsical rock formations, Greek village, valleys, and ancient churches. I will reveal how people managed to carve habitable settlements in the stone 5,000 years ago, which ancient city was recently discovered, how to decipher frescoes in ancient churches, and what the local landscapes resemble.
What to Expect
Cappadocia: Rock Monasteries, Underground Cities, and Picturesque Valleys
You will visit all the highlights of the Blue Route. The excursion program includes:
- Ortahisar Fortress - formed millennia ago as a result of natural cataclysms, today it resembles a fairytale castle. We will climb to its peak and admire fantastic landscapes from above.
- Mustafapasa Village - centuries ago, Greek and Turkish families lived here in peace and harmony. I will tell you about the local culture and what prompted people to permanently leave their homes.
- Keshlik Cave Monastery - you will stroll through stone tunnels, peek into a huge dining hall, find a holy spring, and visit the Church of the Archangel and the Chapel of St. Stephen.
- Tashkypasha Madrasa - a place where religious disciplines were taught since the time of the Karamanids dynasty. You will examine its intricately carved doors with ornate decorations and learn about the role of a madrasa today.
- Ancient City Sobessos - I will tell you how it was accidentally discovered in the middle of an orchard just a few years ago. I will show you unique mosaics, mysterious burials, and ancient baths.
- Soganli Valley - you will hear the story of colorful rag dolls that have become important symbols of Cappadocia. You will also explore ancient churches: Snake Church, Wooden Church, Karabash, and St. Barbara's.
- Derinkuyu Underground City - a multi-level ancient settlement consisting of numerous tunnels and secret passages. You will walk through them and learn how people lived here many centuries ago.
- Pigeon Valley - one of the most beautiful spots in Cappadocia. I will reveal why local farmers carved birdhouses in soft volcanic rock.
- Goreme Viewpoint - you will appreciate magical chimneys, tuff cones, and whimsical rock formations from a height.
