To Kazbek through the legendary places of the Military-Georgian Road
About this experience
The journey along the Military-Georgian Road is a succession of continuous and vibrant impressions of the surrounding landscapes that are difficult not to admire. Combined with historical notes, visits to architectural and religious monuments, as well as chacha and wine tasting, this trip will immerse you in the multi-layered culture and traditions of the Georgian people.
What to Expect
Ananuri Fortress, mountain lake and Cross Pass
You will visit the Ananuri Fortress, towering over the picturesque Zhinvali Reservoir. The castle is a monastery complex on the Aragvi River: on the territory, among other buildings, you will also see two churches. We will talk about past epochs of the residence of Georgian princes, about the system of fortifications and their strategic placement. You will hear stories of bloody battles, raids and uprisings, as well as learn about some features of temple structures. Further along the way will be the Gudauri ski resort with its famous springs, and from the Arch of Friendship of Peoples, you can overlook the Aragvi Gorge and the entire eastern Caucasus highland.
Chacha and wine tasting
Midway, we will stop for lunch and tastings. You will get acquainted with real mountain khinkali and other dishes of the rich Georgian cuisine. You will discover the features of chacha and the rules of its consumption, as well as taste local wines.
Stepantsminda and the Church of the Holy Trinity of Gergeti
In the small town, in the Mtskheta-Tianeti region, in the northeast of Georgia, you will find bright and inspiring landscapes of active relief, alpine meadows, and dense forest. The main attraction here is, of course, the mighty Kazbek, which has already become a center of mountaineering and various mountain treks. A special part of the program will be a visit to the church (Gergeti Trinity Church). You will ascend to the church by off-road vehicle - from the top of the hill, you will have a breathtaking panorama: a view of the majestic Kazbek and the surrounding mountain range. Near the temple, I will tell you the history of this ancient structure, in which, according to legends, during the invasion of the Persians in the 18th century, the cross of St. Nino was hidden.
Scenic Sno Fortress
At the end of the trip, you will head to the Sno Gorge or Guduashauri Gorge, as it is also called. In this picturesque place, on the right bank of the Terek River, you will inspect a small fortress erected on the top of a rock and learn about the history associated with this fortification.

Many thanks to Alexander for an excellent, well-planned trip. I would like to highlight the calm, comfortable driving style for passengers. And even though a cloud was hanging over Kazbek and we only saw its edge, the impressions from the journey are the warmest. Highly recommend.
