About this experience
The journey from Tbilisi to the mighty extinct volcano offers breathtaking views of the mountains, against the backdrop of which unfolds the canvas of Georgian history. You will learn about the submerged villages of Queen Tamar's times, see the shimmering expanse of the Zhinvali Reservoir, and uncover the fate of the Ananuri Fortress. The natural treasures of the country will share their beauty and secrets. Kazbek, like a Caucasian prince, will enchant with his proud silhouette. And I will tell you the most important things about these legendary places and the role of the Georgian Military Road in the chronicles of Tiflis.
What to Expect
Untouched Nature
The journey will offer the best mountain views, among which are the hidden Zhinvali Reservoir, the viewing platform "Arch of the Friendship of Peoples", and the ancient Ananuri Fortress. You will learn the history of the old walls and explore the citadel's territory, and then admire the stunning panorama of the Aragvi River gorge, crossing the Cross Pass. You will taste water from a mineral spring, see what a travertine terrace is, and take photos from the best angles.
The History of the Georgian Military Road
The Georgian Military Road is an ancient route connected to important events of antiquity. I will tell you about the cities of Queen Tamar's times through which the road passed, about the rule of Eristavi and the Persian invasions. You will visit Stepantsminda village at the foot of Kazbek, and by off-road vehicle ascend to the Gergeti Trinity Church. Three of us took a ride in a very clean car with an excellent driver-guide Gocha, who is very friendly, loves Georgia, and enjoys talking about it. The impressions from the trip will stay with us for a long time!
