Kazbegi: main and non-touristic trails
About this experience
The motto of this tour is one word - mountains. They surround Lake Zhinvali and Ananuri Fortress, captivate travelers at the Arch of Friendship, and guard the 'heavenly' Gergethi Temple. You will see these places and uncover their history, visit a mineral spring and waterfalls.
What to expect
Jvari - ancient and beautiful monastery
Before heading to the Military-Georgian Road, you will visit the cross-shaped Jvari monastery on a high hill: it is the place 'where, merging, the streams of Aragvi and Kura rustle, embracing like two sisters'. You will see this landscape and the first capital of Georgia, Mtskheta, from above, and I will tell you the main things about its history.
Military-Georgian Road: what not to miss
On the way to the giant Kazbek, each tour has the same stops - but this does not diminish their beauty and significance.
- First of all, it is Zhinvali Reservoir, created by human hands, whose turquoise waters frame the mountains. You will admire the lake near the dam, and then visit Ananuri Fortress. In this magnificently preserved medieval citadel, I will tell the sad story of the Aragvi princes.
- You will see the meeting of the Black and White Aragvi, hear legends and real facts about why the waters of the two rivers are colored in these colors. Then it will be time for lunch - at a cafe in the birthplace of khinkali, where they are prepared in the most correct way :)
- We will definitely stop at the Arch of Friendship, symbolizing the warm relations between the Georgian and Russian peoples. From here, unforgettable panoramas of the Caucasus Mountains gorge open up.
- Not far from the highest point of the Military-Georgian Road, you will find a mineral spring - the water here flows over a shining travertine rock.
- And of course, you will visit the Gergeti Trinity - an austere church that perfectly complements the view of the proud extinct volcano Kazbek. I hope the weather will be in our favor to see it in all its glory! By the church, I will tell you about its history and why Georgia's main treasures were kept here.
I will be happy to take photos of you against the backdrop of Georgia's most beautiful places!
