About this experience
"Paris - the city of love!" This cliche is the first thing that comes to mind when picturing the capital of France. But few wonder where this stereotype came from. Our tour of the New Athens quarter will help you grasp the essence of romanticism that has filled Paris since the 19th century. Visiting bakeries and pastry shops will make the walk especially pleasant and quite fulfilling!
What to Expect
Romanticism Center
The bohemian New Athens quarter, where Parisian art flourished against the backdrop of the major political upheavals of the 19th century. Walking in the footsteps of the founders of French romanticism - Delacroix, Berlioz, Dumas, Chopin, and George Sand - we will discuss what Paris was like during that era. We will peek into the Museum of Romantic Life, where you will learn spicy stories of French courtesans. We will see the luxurious mansion of one of them - Thérèse Lachmann. At Saint-Georges square, we will recreate the route of the Parisian carnival - the main social event that now exists only in urban legends.
Tasting Paris
We will stroll along one of the most gastronomically indulgent streets. We will visit shops with airy Parisian meringues and Jewish buns - crispy on the outside, airy on the inside. We will see a pastry shop that managed to bring together creations of the 10 best pastry chefs in France under one roof. And we will discuss how two entrepreneurs turned a simple corner bakery into the most talked-about establishment in the capital.
