Old Tbilisi and Avlabar: Following the Footsteps of Armenian Heritage
About this experience
Multinational Tbilisi carefully preserves the heritage of past centuries. This is especially evident in the oldest districts, where we will go. I will introduce you to the district of Tbilisi Armenians. While strolling through atmospheric streets, we will talk about the history of Georgia as a whole, Armenian benefactors who left a significant mark here, and the origin of the country and its capital's name.
What to Expect
Monument to the characters from the movie "Mimino". At the beginning of the route, we will remember the legendary movie. I will tell you how in Tbilisi and Armenian Dilijan, in one year, they installed similar monuments, which are visually different.
Church of Nor Echmiadzin. Let's look at the temple of the Armenian Apostolic Church. According to legend, it was founded in the 18th century by immigrants from the city of Echmiadzin, which is how it got its name.
Ruins of the Avetaran Church. We will glance at the building, which until its collapse in 1989 was considered the tallest Armenian church in Tbilisi.
Women's Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Lord. The nuns of this monastery are actively engaged in Christian activities, and since 2003, a House of Mercy has been opened here.
Queen Daredjan Palace (or Sachino Palace). We will pass by the mansion, built in the 18th century for the wife of King Kartli-Kakhety Irakli II.
Prince Porakishvili's House. We will see the oldest building in Tbilisi, 400 years old. Not everyone is allowed in, but if we are lucky, we will obtain the secret key to access.
Metekhi Church and monument to King Vakhtang Gorgasali. From here, a panoramic view of the districts of Kala and Kldisubani opens up.
Kura Embankment. We will descend to the river, where you can relax, have a cup of tea, coffee, glass of wine, or take a boat ride.
Abanotubani (Bath District). Here we will see Aliyev Square, sulfur baths, Bone monument, Dabakhana River, Friday Mosque, and much more. We will approach the waterfall in the heart of Tbilisi.
Krast'lnaya Street and Surb Gevorg Cathedral. Colorful balconies of low-rise buildings and one of the oldest active Armenian churches await us here.

Seabo was magnificent! The tour was very dynamic and at the same time enough time was devoted to details and taking photos. Seabo truly loves his native city and spends a lot of time telling about the old streets). This is not our first tour in Tbilisi, but it was much more enjoyable than others)). ...
