Often, local residents call this city the second or Georgian Jerusalem, and for good reason. Here, there is a huge number of relics of the entire Christian world. What to expect
Legendary road
Our walk will begin with the famous Military-Georgian road, admired by A. Pushkin, M. Lermontov, P. Tchaikovsky, Alexandre Dumas, Leo Tolstoy, and many others. Turning off the road, you will drive through the places where the events described by Lermontov in the famous poem "Mtsyri" occurred, and ascend to the Jvari VI century church - from here opens a charming view of Mtskheta: "...where the swirling, embracing, like two sisters, streams of Aragvi and Kura...".
Temples of Mtskheta
You will visit the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (Pillar of Life) - the main patriarchal cathedral of the Georgian Orthodox Church. You will get acquainted with its history and iconic events of the past. Here is the burial place of the Holy relics of Christianity - the robe of Jesus Christ and the mantle of St. Elijah the Prophet, as well as the relics of Andrew the Apostle. You will then walk to the Samtavro church, where lies the tomb of the first Georgian Christian king Mirian and his wife - Queen Nana, and the relics of the holy elder Gabriel of Samtavro. You will also see the blackberry bush under which St. Nina lived and preached. The "blackberry bush", repeatedly cut down by barbarians and sprouting again and again, is considered miraculous.
