Mtskheta: Small Group Tour
Описание
The city we will visit stands out in national history and culture. Its significance is so high that Mtskheta can be called the place where Georgia begins. Here you will touch the origins of Christianity. Explore the iconic landmarks: Svetitskhoveli, Jvari, and Samtavro. And enjoy the famous panorama of the confluence of two rivers - Aragvi and Kura.
What to expect
Mtskheta: a UNESCO-listed museum city. You will learn about the history of the city, which played a significant role in the establishment of Georgia as a state and its cultural and religious development.
Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. Visit the largest of the surviving historical temples in the country. We will talk about the construction and the history of the cathedral, which served as the center of Christian Georgia for centuries.
Jvari Monastery. The 'Monastery of the Cross' is the pinnacle of Georgian architectural development. Although the temple is small in size, it amazes with its grandeur. The name of the sanctuary has a historical basis - since the adoption of Christianity at the site of this temple by the order of St. Nino and King Mirian, a cross was installed.
It is worth mentioning the location of the temple separately. Here you will see the confluence of the Kura, flowing from the southwest, and the Aragvi, flowing from the northeast - a symbolic meeting place for almost all corners of Georgia.
Samtavro Monastery. Finally, you will explore another architectural monument - the episcopal church of the first half of the 11th century, located on a hillside. The first Christian rulers of Georgia, Mirian III and his spouse Queen Nana, are buried here.
