About this experience
Mtskheta is a city that was the capital of the Iberian Kingdom from the 4th century BC to the 5th century. This city and its surroundings are a sacred and holy place for every Georgian, as Christianity was proclaimed the state religion here in the 4th century by St. Nino. During the excursion, we will immerse ourselves in the world of legends and antiquities of this city.
Program
- Our walk will begin on the famous military-Georgian road, adored by A. Pushkin, M. Lermontov, P. Tchaikovsky, A. Dumas-father, L. Tolstoy and many others.
- Turning off the road, we will drive past the places described by Lermontov in the famous poem "Mtsyri" and ascend to the Jvari Monastery of the 6th century - from here you can see the enchanting view of Mtskheta: "... where the streams of the Aragvi and Kura rivers, like two embracing sisters, merge noisily..."
- In the city of Mtskheta, we will visit the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (Pillar of Life) - the cathedral of the Georgian Orthodox Church. This is where the relics of Christianity are located - the Chiton of Jesus Christ and the Mantle of the Prophet Elijah, as well as the remains of Andrew the First-Called.
- Next, we will take a walk to the Samtavro Church, where the tomb of the first Georgian Christian king Mirian and his wife Queen Nana is located, as well as the relics of the holy elder Gabriel of Samtavro. You will have the opportunity to see and touch the blackberry bush under which St. Nino lived and preached. The "Blackberry Bush", repeatedly cut down by barbarians and reappearing time and again, is considered miraculous.

We really enjoyed the tour with Leri. Respect to the company for the policy "the tour will take place, in any case". There were 2 of us, so it turned out to be a very informative individual tour. A lot of information about the places we passed on the way, about life in Georgia. Highly recommended.
