What to Expect
Jvari Monastery - monastery on a mountain top
First, we will visit the monastery that Lermontov wrote about in the poem 'Mtsyri'. From here, you will enjoy enchanting views of the confluence of the Aragvi and Kura rivers. It was here in the 4th century that the first cross was established as a symbol of Christianity in Georgia. You will feel the atmosphere of the ancient abode, learn how it differs from other Georgian temples, who and why built the Jvari Monastery. You will admire the panoramas of Mtskheta and see the remnants of the old city.
The city of Mtskheta and ancient temples
You will find yourself in the religious capital of Georgia, also known as the second Jerusalem. I will tell you about the connection between the city's founder and the biblical prophet Noah, what Pompey the Great did here, and what he left behind, and how the establishment of the ancient capital is linked to Alexander the Great.
- Svetitskhoveli. You will visit the first Christian church in Georgia, where the burial vault of the Bagrationi royal dynasty is located. You will see the place where Georgian kings were baptized, as well as the place where the Robe of Jesus Christ is buried, the main sanctuary of Georgia - you will learn how the church's construction history is related to the relic. I will tell you about the secret of the sanctuary brought here by Jews in the 6th century BC. And I will answer the most frequently asked question in Svetitskhoveli: why is there a fresco with zodiac signs in an Orthodox church?
- Samtavro. The temple houses the first Christian king and queen of Georgia, and here are also the relics of St. Gabriel, to whom pilgrims from all over the world come. You will see where the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Nino lived and preached. You will learn why the enlightener of Georgia lived here and what remains of her residence, as well as the connection between St. George and St. Nino.
Medieval Bebris Tsikhe Fortress
Finally, we will visit a non-touristy place that you would definitely not come across on a regular tour. Many interesting stories and legends are associated with the fortress, which I will tell you about. You will learn how the citadel is connected with Queen Tamar, the most famous ruler of Georgia, and what role the fortress played in the times of the great Roman commander Pompey.
Wine Tastings
And of course, wine tastings are included in the program, how could we do without it in Georgia! In Mtskheta, you will try exclusive wines from a local winemaker and the most popular Georgian delicacy - churchkhela, made from natural grape juice and nuts.

We visited the Mtskheta Temples, Jvari Monastery, and Bebris Tsikhe Fortress on the excursion, they tell very interesting stories, and also informed us about Tbilisi itself. We had a bit of bad luck with the weather, but overall everything was great😉
