About this experience
This tour is perfect for those who want to diversify their beach vacation and enrich themselves spiritually. You will visit three Orthodox monasteries of the Budva Riviera and their picturesque surroundings and learn about the history of these places.
Itinerary
- The route will start at the Podmayne male monastery in Budva, next point will be the male monastery of Praskvica near Przno village. After that, we will drive up to Cheelobrdo, where a monument to the victims of World War II is erected. This place offers a great observation deck, from where you can see the islands of St. Stefan, Budva, Becici, and other coastal towns. And the final stop of the tour will be the Rustovo female monastery.
- Not far from St. Stefan is the Praskvica monastery, we will drive there from Budva in 15-20 minutes. It was founded in the times of Zeta, either in the 11th or 15th century. The monastery is named after a unique spring, the water from which leaves a peach flavor in your mouth. The monastery complex includes the Church of the Holy Trinity and St. Nicholas, monastic cells and towers. Once a monk from Russia - Yegor Stroganov lived here. There is a plaque on the hill thanking him - he personally laid the road with steps from Praskvica to Cheelobrdo.
- In the village of Rustovo, you will visit another Orthodox monastery, which has 3 churches and is home to about a dozen nuns. It stands on the site where the King of Hungary, Ludwig, in the 14th century fought against the Orthodox clan of the Patroshivich, who supported Venice. The Rustovo monastery appeared on the burial site of 1400 members of this clan. Here you will find a church dedicated to the martyrs of the royal family - the Romanovs, the Church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos, and the Church of St. Benedict of Nursia, who founded the monastic movement in the West.
