Old Montenegro: Cetinje, Ostrog, Daibabe, Skadar Lake and Rijeka Crnoevic
About this experience
I invite you on a tour of the most 'Montenegrin' places. We will visit scenic spots, famous Orthodox monasteries, the incredibly beautiful Skadar Lake, and the cozy ancient settlement. I will show you how much interesting is concentrated in this small corner of the earth and immerse you in the rich history of the tiny Balkan country.
What to expect
Budva Riviera viewpoint
Our first stop. At an altitude of 850 meters above sea level, you will see the entire coastline. Get ready - it will be very beautiful! And this is just the beginning of our extraordinary route.
Cetinje Monastery
Our next point of the tour is the Cetinje Monastery. We will talk about its history and the treasures it holds. Here are the right hand of St. John the Baptist - the three fingers of the right hand with which the saint baptized Jesus Christ, a part of the life-giving Cross of the Lord - on which Jesus was crucified, and the relics of St. Peter of Cetinje the Miracle Worker.
Cetinje
We will also take a walk through the ancient capital of Montenegro, which is called an open-air museum. I will tell you the history of the city, which dates back to the 15th century. I will show you the palace of King Nikola, the Blue Palace, the National Museum, the Vlach Church of the 15th century with a fence made of two thousand guns barrels. Also interesting are the old embassies of the early 20th century, preserved in their original form.
Ostrog Monastery
Our path then leads to Ostrog - the third most visited Orthodox shrine in the world after Jerusalem and Mount Athos in Greece. Here, in the small church of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary, the relics of St. Basil of Ostrog the Miracle Worker are kept. After visiting the monastery, you will have lunch at a national restaurant overlooking Ostrog.
Daibabe Monastery
Externally, it looks like an ordinary church, but inside it is an interesting underground complex. It is unique in that it was hand-carved in the shape of a cross into the rock. Here are the relics of St. Simeon, a disciple of St. Basil of Ostrog. You will be amazed by the well-preserved ancient frescoes, painted by Simeon himself.
Rijeka Crnoevic
On the way to the town, we will stop at the viewpoint 'Pavlova Strana' and go down to the stone that fulfills wishes. And then I will introduce you to an interesting settlement. Rijeka Crnoevic was once the largest fishing and market center. Now, only 200 people live in this authentic ancient village.
Skadar Lake
And finally, on a boat, we will sail along a narrow stretch of the river to the most beautiful reservoir. This place is called 'bird paradise'. Herons, ducks, cormorants, and even the rare Dalmatian curly pelican live here. Here you can find Skadar carp, trout, and bleak. Untouched nature, mountains, water lilies, birds, beautiful views - these places have never left anyone indifferent!
