About this experience
You will explore the historic part of Budva and Kotor, highlighted by the rays of the setting sun. Explore the fortress walls, medieval citadels, miraculous icons, Byzantine domes, and majestic temples of different eras and architectural styles. I will help decipher what you see and feel the incredible intertwining of many centuries and traditions on one land.
What to expect
Medieval Budva
You will walk through the historic center of Budva and examine artifacts from different eras: ancient wells, remnants of ancient roads, arches, and unusual monuments. You will learn how the city was built and feel the spirit of the Middle Ages. Then we will head towards the 15th-century citadel located on the coastal cliffs. Along the way, you will see fortress walls, narrow arrow-slit windows, and elements of ancient masonry. The citadel itself will impress you with bas-reliefs, ruins of barracks and a Catholic church, and an inner courtyard where concerts are sometimes held. I will tell you the history of the citadel and reveal why it was once considered the most reliable fortification in the Mediterranean.
Kotor at your fingertips
Upon arrival in Kotor, the first thing you will see is the majestic walls and the ancient fortress of San Giovanni. To climb it, you will have to overcome 1400 steps, but the view of old Kotor and the picturesque bay is worth it! Next, you will visit the 9th-century Cathedral of St. Tryphon, examine the Church of St. Nicholas, and learn the 800-year history of the Church of St. Luke, uniting Orthodox and Catholic traditions.
