About this experience
The early bird catches the almost deserted monasteries and leisurely explores their ancient beauty. Plus, catch a glimpse of Mount Ararat in the morning sun rays. Embark on a fascinating journey to the birthplace of Christian Armenia. Visit wineries where they don't turn water into wine, but make it from juicy grapes, pomegranates, or cherries.
What to Expect
- Khor Virap Monastery. Marvel at the morning panorama of Mount Ararat. Discover where the history of Christianity in Armenia began and learn how it unfolded. Hear legends about the holy hermit Gregory, great Armenian rulers, and the ancient capital of Artashat.
- Noravank Monastery. Admire the otherworldly red rocks surrounding the monastery and the picturesque river gorge. Learn the sacred meaning of traditional stone crosses - khachkars.
- Areni Mountain Lookout. Ascend to a bird's eye view, enjoy incredible mountain landscapes, and have a light picnic with freshly brewed coffee. En route to the lookout, visit the Areni stalactite cave. Understand its use and take original photos.
- Wine Tasting and Lunch. A visit to Areni is incomplete without stopping by local wineries - where every resident makes wine. Optionally, taste classic wines at large wineries like Hin Areni and Old Bridge, or savor delicious fruit wines made from pomegranate, cherry, or apricot at a private winery. Mixing and matching is encouraged :)
