What to Expect
Ancient History of Khor Virap Hill
At the foot of the legendary biblical Mount Ararat stands the picturesque monastery of Khor Virap. Within its mighty walls, you will admire panoramic views, learn about the ancient capital of Greater Armenia, Artashat, and the significance of this place in the development of Armenian Christianity.
Mysterious and Tasty in Areni
The mountainous village of Areni will welcome you with an authentic atmosphere: here you will discover the oldest grape variety in Armenia. You will not only hear about the peculiarities of local viticulture but also appreciate them yourself - a wine tasting awaits you at the Areni winery. After that, you will explore a local historical and natural attraction - the Bird Cave. During archaeological excavations, evidence of material culture from different periods of the Stone and Bronze Ages was found here. Strolling through the halls of the karst cave, you will learn about the first local inhabitants and see the oldest leather shoes and wine production tools.
Medieval Noravank and Khachkars
From Areni, you will head to one of Armenia's most magnificent medieval monuments - the Noravank Monastery. Surrounded by fiery mountains, this monastery has a rich spiritual and cultural history. Here you will observe ancient khachkars and learn about their creator, the architect and sculptor Momik - one of the most talented personalities of medieval Armenia.
