What to Expect
Khor Virap is a monastery complex at the foot of the legendary Mount Ararat near the border with Turkey. It holds special historical and religious significance for Armenia, translating to 'deep dungeon' - discover why. This is where the history of Christian Armenia began. Learn about it and the trials faced by our first Catholicos, Gregory the Illuminator.
Noravank Monastery Complex is a gem of Armenian religious architecture. In the Middle Ages, Noravank was a significant cultural and spiritual center. The name translates to 'new monastery', and it is perched on a steep mountainside, surrounded by striking red rocks. On the way to the monastery, you'll hear about our writer Oganess Tumanyan and musician Komitas.
Areni Cave. Archaeological excavations starting in 2007 here drastically changed the understanding of Armenia's ancient history. The cave revealed traces of the world's oldest winemaking dating back 6000 years. It is where the oldest organic material, a leather shoe, was found. We will discuss other unique artifacts discovered here.
Wine Tasting - it's time to taste the wine, but not just any wine, it's from the endemic variety of black grapes, Areni!
During the tour, we will stop for lunch.
