What to expect
Symbolic monasteries of Armenia
From Yerevan, the road leads towards the great biblical mountain of Ararat: along the way, you will enjoy mountain panoramas and hilly expanses. I will stop at impressive places for you to take photos and simply enjoy walks. At the foot of Mount Ararat, on the banks of the Araks River, you will find yourself next to the powerful walls of the Khor Virap monastery and learn about the ancient Armenian capital of Artashat and the role of Gregory the Illuminator in the development of Armenian Christianity. The second ancient monastery complex, Noravank, will enchant you with the harmony of man-made and natural: the monastery is surrounded by steep red rocks. Here you will hear about the religious significance of the complex in the past and present and see khachkars - traditional stone steles.
The best Armenian wine
A mountain serpentine road will lead you to the land of ancient Armenian winemaking traditions - Areni. We will visit a winery where you will taste several types of wine and discover its characteristics. If desired, you can visit a local historical attraction - the Birds’ Cave, which has been in existence for over 5,000 years. Strolling through the karst halls, you will learn about the excavations that have revealed the oldest evidence of the first settlements in this area.
