About this experience
I invite you to a rich journey through the most picturesque regions of Armenia. You will see endless green fields, canyons, red-orange rocks, caves, and amazing monasteries. You will taste local wine at the Areni winery, learn about Armenian traditions, culture, and mentality, and understand the strength and uniqueness of our country.
What to Expect
Khor Virap - history and legends
Perched on a cliff and surrounded by a wide plain, the monastery of Khor Virap will impress you with its wonderful view of Mount Ararat and rich history. You will learn why Gregory the Illuminator, who brought Christianity to Armenia, was imprisoned here for 13 years and even descend into the 6.5-meter deep pit where he was held. I will also tell you what was on the site of Khor Virap before and why pilgrims from all over the world strive to visit it.
Bird Cave and Areni Winery
From the Ararat region, we will head to the Vayots Dzor region, where a completely different landscape awaits us: green fields will change to picturesque canyons, red-ochre rocks, and caves. We will make a stop at one of them - Bird Cave. Vayots Dzor is also one of the oldest centers of Armenian winemaking. You will see this for yourself at the famous Areni winery, where you will taste several types of the eponymous wine.
Ancient and grand Noravank
To wrap up, you will visit one of the most famous monuments of medieval Armenia - the Noravank monastic complex with magnificent churches and chapels. Built in the 13th-14th centuries by the powerful Orbelyan princes, it will amaze you with the harmonious blend of architecture and surrounding nature. Perched on the sheer red rocks of the Arpa River gorge, it will seem like a natural extension of the landscape!
