During the excursion, you will not only observe the creations but also participate in their making, experience the complexity of the process, and feel part of ancient crafts. You will learn how to make silk paper, which Samarkand has been famous for since the 8th century, and carve a box in Eastern style. Before that, we will stroll through the historical center.
What to Expect
Guided tour of the historical center
You will visit Registan Square, Bibi-Khanym Mosque, Gur-Emir Mausoleum, Shah-i-Zinda Complex, and Siyob Bazaar. These are the main attractions of Samarkand. Observing medieval monuments, you will get acquainted with the historical and cultural heritage of the city - the jewels of the East.
Workshop at the Paper Factory
Next, we will visit the ancient production site in the village of Konigil. There, you will participate in a craft workshop on making the famous Samarkand silk paper. You will be shown each stage of its production. And you will learn how vegetable fibers are selected and prepared for the creation of quality paper.
Secrets of the Eastern Box
The craft tour will continue at the workshop for making Uzbek chests, where you will attend a master class by the skilled artisan Sukhrob. His chests are known for their exquisite carvings and patterns. You will get acquainted with the ancient craft that is passed down from generation to generation. And you will create a small box in Eastern style.
