About this experience
Samarkand was one of the most important cities on the ancient trade route: it was a major center for silk fabric production, the main commodity of caravans. During the tour, you will learn about the traditions of this delicate craft. Visit paper and carpet factories, and participate in a workshop on scarf embroidery.
What to Expect
For generations, Samarkand masters have been engaged in silk production. You will learn about the history of silk manufacturing and explore the traditional ornaments that adorned exquisite works. The East is a delicate matter, and this delicacy is manifested in everything. You will see that each pattern has its own meaning and symbolism.
In our program:
- Paper Factory. In the village of Konigil, you will visit a facility where world-famous silk paper is made using 8th-century technology.
- Registan Square. You will admire the architectural monuments of the 15th-17th centuries. Plus, attend a master class on making silk scarves and learn the basics of Eastern embroidery
