About this experience
Samarkand is a city of historical monuments, mosques, and ancient legends. While it may seem like a place for adults, there is plenty of interesting activities for young travelers as well. I have curated an exciting route specially for them: they will try pottery and weaving, embroider beautiful patterns, make paper, and interact with elders in the mahalla.
What to Expect
Konigil Tourist Village. In this eastern fairytale place, kids will learn several crafts: under the guidance of an experienced potter, they will sculpt and then paint clay products. They will make eco-friendly paper from mulberry bark. Girls will embroider a piece of Suzani, a special type of Samarkand handmade fabric.
Hudjum Silk Carpet Factory. Kids will see how laborious and intricate it is to create carpet masterpieces, they will even try their hand at the loom and venture into a new craft.
Authentic Uzbek Mahalla. We will stop here for lunch and interact with local elders. Young participants will learn how to make authentic Samarkand plov and will note down its recipe.
Ethnographic Park "Eternal City". On an area of over 10 hectares, we will see artist and craftsman shops, recreational areas, a library, cafes, and restaurants.
Ulugh Beg Observatory. I will explain how scientists of past centuries could determine the number of sunny days in a year and the ecliptic curve along the equator. And with modern technology, I will even demonstrate this practically.
Shah-i-Zinda Necropolis. Besides the entertaining locations, we will visit a serious historical monument. At the end of the enriching day, I will organize a quiz: for every correct answer, I will give small gifts as keepsakes.
