About this experience
The traditions of celebrating Christmas in Europe go back centuries and become more luxurious and diverse every year. I have visited various European countries and cities specifically during the holiday season, and my family and I have chosen two ancient and magical cities as our favorites - Luxembourg (Grand Duchy of Luxembourg) and Trier (Germany). I invite you to join us on a journey into a real fairy tale - magical Christmas in old Europe!
Christmas for Europeans is the brightest, most family-oriented, and anticipated holiday. The festive events start in late November and last for four weeks, and in some European cities - until New Year's. So travelers from all over the world and locals have plenty of time to enjoy the festive atmosphere.
Program
Our trip will begin at the train station (the meeting city will be agreed upon in advance), where you can arrive from any part of Belgium or neighboring countries. The excursion takes place in the evening (it is best to start not earlier than 5:00 p.m.) - this is the most favorable time to enjoy the beauty of the Christmas cities in Europe.
I will meet you in my car, and we will first go to Luxembourg, where we will visit the center - the very heart of the ancient city, and witness the festival of lights and animations on the streets. You will undoubtedly be amazed by the beauty of the Notre-Dame Cathedral, where the Grand Duke of Luxembourg recently married. I will show you the Grand Ducal Palace, Guillaume II Square, where the lights of the Christmas tree are lit every year. Especially impressive in the evening are the Adolphe Bridge and the Golden Lady - one of the main national symbols of Luxembourg. I will tell you the stories of these landmarks, some of which are slightly mystical.
Both young and old will be delighted with the selection at the local Christmas market. Here you can find handcrafted heart-shaped candles, gingerbread cookies, toys, various decorations, greeting cards, and many charming gift ideas. And of course, you can taste various traditional foods and mulled wine.
Then, crossing the border between Luxembourg and Germany, we will arrive in the ancient city of Trier. Strolling through the streets of the "Northern Rome," I will tell you about the great citizens of this city who played significant roles in human history. You will be amazed at how some architectural elements built in the early 4th century have survived. But our main goal will, of course, be to get acquainted with the Christmas city.
The Christmas markets of Trier are no less grand and magnificent than those of Luxembourg. The legendary Black Gate shines with lights, the air is filled with various delicious smells, among which German sausages are at the forefront. In addition to Christmas punch and mulled wine, which, like in Luxembourg, are served in special clay mugs (you can buy them as a souvenir if you wish), there is also plenty of sweets: honey cakes with various fillings and the beloved spit cake. The pavilions are filled with Christmas decorations, souvenirs, and gifts.
