About this experience
In this trip, you will encounter two ancient European centers at once - the aristocratic Luxembourg and the colorful German Trier. You will get acquainted with the main symbols of the "dwarf" state, hear the legend of the Golden Frau, and explore the fairytale Luxembourg from the fortress wall. And then we will trace the Roman and French roots in the ancient town of Trier and visit its attractions - from the Black Gate to Hauptmarkt Square. Thus, in one day you will compare not only the elegant architecture of two cities, but also the cultures of neighboring countries - Luxembourg and Germany.
What to Expect
Stroll through majestic Luxembourg
The first part of our journey will be dedicated to the miniature, yet graceful Luxembourg and its main architectural landmarks. In the Cathedral of Our Lady of Luxembourg, you will see the shrines of the Grand Dukes' family - the mausoleum of the state rulers. You will admire the city's symbol, Adolphe Bridge, and hear the fascinating story of the Golden Frau. We will walk through the most picturesque and iconic streets of Luxembourg, talk about the vicissitudes in the fate of Europe's richest monarch at his palace, visit the cozy Church of St. Michael. And, of course, we will enjoy the wonderful city panorama from the height of the fortress wall. Then, we will cross the border of two states by car and head to German Trier.
Interweaving cultures and traditions of Trier
Trier is undoubtedly a German city, but it is here that you will feel the spirit of Ancient Rome and find cultural traces of France and Luxembourg. The main attractions of the city will be the center of our attention: you will explore the historic center, visit the Black Gate - the city's landmark - and touch the history of Trier in the Simeonstift Museum. Next, we will walk through the city's Hauptmarkt Square with a beautiful fountain dedicated to Saint Peter and the Four Virgins. We will appreciate the interior of the baroque Church of St. Gangolf from the 14th century. Also, we will examine the basilica built in the 4th century by the order of Emperor Constantine, and the two main cathedrals of Trier - the Cathedral of Our Lady and St. Peter's Cathedral.
