About this experience
During a couple of hours of a busy walk, we will visit two, in my opinion, the most vibrant and interesting Christmas markets in the city center. I will tell you the history of the Christmas holiday and how Germans celebrate it, about curious traditions and habits of Berliners.
Christmas in Germany
Christmas in Germany is a time when even adults are transported into a magical fairytale, the scents of mulled wine and cinnamon waft from every cafe, and it's impossible to take your eyes off the sparkling lights of the streets and house facades. It's the time of open-air markets and holiday sales in stores, and if you've decided to do some shopping in Berlin, there couldn't be a better time to do so.
Preparing for the main European holiday in Germany starts well in advance, and the capital is, naturally, no exception. Exactly a month before Christmas, on November 25th, the whole Berlin transforms into one big Christmas market, and the main squares of the city become its center.
Program
At the markets, you can observe craftsmen making handmade souvenirs in real-time, listen to music performed by street artists, taste Christmas sweets in the form of elaborately decorated gingerbread cookies, and drink Gluhwein - the German version of mulled wine. After sipping the hot spiced wine and warming up, you can take part in Christmas contests, ride attractions, and immerse yourself in this heartwarming and soul-refreshing pre-holiday bustle.
New Year Holidays
If you've decided to spend not only Christmas but also New Year holidays in Berlin, the range of impressions will be fully packed. As Christmas approaches, the festive atmosphere only heats up! Street performers entertain passersby with live renditions of New Year hits, the scent of cinnamon and Gluhwein mingles with the aroma of roasted chestnuts, marzipan, and Berlin sausages. By midnight, hundreds of thousands of people gather at the Brandenburg Gate to watch the festive fireworks illuminating the night sky. Clubs, restaurants, and other establishments operate all night long, offering partygoers a huge choice of entertainment.
