About this experience
High in the mountains, hidden from civilization, there is a city of craftsmen with its unique lifestyle, way of life, and even dialect. Walking through the cobblestone streets and admiring authentic shops, you will learn how this place became the home for carpet weavers, metal workers, and leather craftsmen for many centuries. You will also get acquainted with the rare architecture of Lagich and be amazed by the thousand-year-old urban planning systems.
What to expect
A journey to the Medieval East
Lagich is located 180 km northwest of Baku, the trip will be interesting and not too tiring. At an altitude of 1200 meters, on the bank of the Girdiman River, you will find the historic city-preserve. You will learn about the legends associated with the origin of Lagich, how the Great Silk Road influenced its life, and what makes the ethnic composition of the local population interesting. I will also explain the uniqueness of the quartered buildings, how the sewerage and water supply system was established here many centuries ago, and what measures were taken for earthquake resistance.
Ancient trade and craft center
As you stroll through the atmospheric streets and quarters, you will undoubtedly encounter many craft shops - most of them look completely natural and therefore very picturesque, without any tourist gloss. You will see rare handmade utensils made of copper, decorated with engravings in the form of Eastern ornaments, knitted and woven items, wooden and leather crafts, souvenir knives, and much more. And I will tell you how to understand by Azerbaijani names what craft the masters of misgyary, hyaggashi, dulushu, zargyary, and others possess.
