About this experience
Our main destination is a village in the Ismailli district, located on the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus mountain range. You will discover rural medieval architecture and learn how the village of craftsmen became one of the important cultural centers. Enjoy lunch at a local resident's house. On the way to Lahij, we will stop at the mysterious Diri Baba Mausoleum in Gobustan and the Juma Mosque in Shamakhi.
What to Expect
Diri Baba Mausoleum
Our first stop will be an hour after the start. You will visit the mausoleum, erected in 1402, learn about the 'eternal old man' to whom it is dedicated, and hear the legends of this pilgrimage site.
Ancient Shamakhi
The city has suffered from destructive earthquakes. However, the ruins of an 8th-century mosque have been preserved. You will explore the reconstructed monument and learn about the history of the city. There is also the only alpaca farm in Azerbaijan, where you can take photos with these cute and friendly animals.
Lahij Craftsmen's Village
The main goal of the journey is the high-mountain village, living far from civilization at its own pace. I will introduce you to its authentic way of life and architecture. And of course, I will tell you about Lahij's crafts - the production of copper and tin products using traditional handmade methods. You will visit a workshop that has been around for over two hundred years. Afterwards, I will invite you to have lunch at a local resident's house - they will gladly tell you about this picturesque corner of Azerbaijan.
