About this experience
The route lies to the northwest of Baku, past the mountain pass with sheer cliffs. The first stop of the journey is the village of Lahij, where you will walk along stone houses with wooden balconies and get acquainted with local crafts. And then have lunch as a guest of a local resident. The second unusual settlement, Ivanovka, will greet you with legends about Molokans and tastings of wine, cheese, and kebabs.
What to expect
Nature of the Greater Caucasus
In the beginning of the journey, we will drive through Shamakhi - the homeland of the Shamakhi queen. Inspired by Arabic tales, you will head to the mountain pass and admire the panoramas of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Systems. And on the wooded slope, a tea party awaits you. We will also stop at a suspension bridge over a turbulent river, drive along a narrow road embracing the rocks, and through a majestic gorge.
The Colorful Crafts of Lahij
The small mountain village of Lahij is included in the international tourist route 'The Great Silk Road'. In this ancient settlement in the Ismayilli district, you will stroll through the stone streets reminiscent of Baku's Icherisheher and hear legends about the origin of the Lahij residents. Lahij is famous as a crafts center: in workshops and shops, you will learn about the occupations of the inhabitants - making copper utensils and leather production.
After a walk in Lahij, you will visit the home of a local resident, have lunch, and learn about the region's cuisine.
Legends of the Most Russian Village in Azerbaijan
How did a village with the Russian name Ivanovka appear in the mountains of Azerbaijan? This unusual place will tell stories of the persecution of residents and the mysterious Molokan sect, who called themselves spirits. You will learn about what influenced the way of life of local settlers and about the modern life of the village. And then you will go for an unlimited tasting of local homemade wines, infusions, and appetizers - cheese, pork kebabs, and lamb kebabs.
