I invite you to see how Azerbaijan lives beyond the capital! You will drive along one of the most scenic mountain roads in the country and visit the city of Shamakhi, home to the Juma Mosque. You will also explore the picturesque village of Lahij, where traditional crafts have thrived for centuries. Walk across the covered bridge over the gorge and try delicious kutabs.
What to Expect
Inside Azerbaijan
We will head to the mountainous regions of the country with forests, rocky mountains, and rushing rivers. In addition to the amazing nature, you will see interesting historical landmarks. The excursion program includes:
- Diri Baba Mausoleum-Mosque - you will explore the ancient two-story mausoleum skillfully built into the rock. I will tell you who Diri Baba was and why his tomb attracts pilgrims from all over the world.
- Juma Mosque - the oldest mosque in the Caucasus, located in the city of Shamakhi. You will hear its history and admire the three-part prayer hall.
- 'City of Masters' Lahij - a colorful Azerbaijani village where craftsmen have been living for centuries. You will stroll through winding cobblestone streets, examining stone houses with carved wooden balconies. You will visit workshops and see how samovars are restored and metal drawings are made.
