About this experience
Along one of the most beautiful mountain roads of Azerbaijan, we will travel to the realm of the Shamakhi Queen, colorful silk scarves, and ancient sanctuaries. You will have the opportunity to explore the workshops of skilled craftsmen in Lahic, uncover the secrets of silk weaving in Baskal, walk on a suspension bridge, and taste bread like no other in all of Azerbaijan!
What to Expect
Visit to ancient Shamakhi
We will be in the homeland of the Shamakhi Queen Pushkin - in the city of Shamakhi, which for many centuries was the main residence of the Shirvan shahs. We will visit the oldest mosque in Azerbaijan, delve into the history of these places. And then we will drive through the beautiful Shamakhi pass, making stops for photos.
Azerbaijani wines
Local vineyards once brought more profit than oil wells, then were almost completely destroyed and painstakingly revived from the ashes. At one of the new vineyards along our route, I will tell you the history of winemaking in Azerbaijan - as it is a ready-made script for a movie!
Journey over the abyss
The route to the village of Lahic will pass along an exciting mountain road that once impressed the host of 'Heads and Tails'. Along the way, we will stop to walk over the abyss on a suspension bridge, enjoy delicious tandyr bread, kutabs, and aromatic tea. And if we are lucky, we will meet local inhabitants - foxes, hares, falcons, or eagles.
Artisan workshops in Lahic village
You will find yourself in a unique corner of Azerbaijan where traditions of crafts are carefully preserved. We will stroll through the colorful streets of the village, peek into workshops and shops of traders, find handmade souvenirs, and talk about local life. I will also reveal the architecture 'trick' of Lahic, thanks to which its houses survived earthquakes.
'Silk' village of Baskal
On the way back, we will visit another picturesque village where colorful national scarves - kelagais are born. You will learn about the decline and revival of this beautiful craft, discover the secrets of creating patterns, and hear an unexpected story about a Russian soldier who visited the village...
