About this experience
From the first moments, Reus captivates with the charm of facades and elegant balconies, the charm of streets, the beauty of landmarks, and an atmosphere conducive to year-round walks. I will take you along the famous modernism route, show you memorable places associated with Gaudi's childhood, and reveal many city secrets!
What to expect
The pulse of urban architecture
The walk will start with the "Boy with Geese" fountain - a magnificent work by Pere Vidriell, a local drawing teacher and partly a sculptor. Then you will see the active 1911 Prat de la Riba school in the modern style, the facades of which are decorated with amazing ceramic panels. And behind the local market building, you will find the quiet neo-Gothic church of John the Baptist, inside of which I will introduce you to luxurious stained glass windows.
The homeland of Gaudi and the famous modernism route
On the way to the monument to the very young Antoni Gaudi, born in Reus, and to the house where he spent his childhood, you will occasionally immerse yourself in the splendor of wrought iron ornaments and the charm of the whimsical facades of buildings included in the modernism route. Together, we will analyze the stylistic features of such houses as Casa Laguna, Casa Punyed, Casa Jordi, Casa Querol, Casa Navas, and many others.
The most recognizable symbol of Reus
Next, the path will lead to the city's main temple - the 16th-century church of Saint Peter, where the great Catalan architect was baptized. You will learn what he borrowed from the construction for his greatest creation and life's work - the Sagrada Familia. And from the bell tower, which you can climb after the tour, you will have a picturesque view of the entire city, the coast of the Mediterranean Sea to the west, and the pensive mountains to the east.
Interesting details from the city's life
In addition, you will learn how the shepherdess Isabel saved Reus from the plague; find out why the candle of Saint Mary burns day and night in the city chapel; see charming little dragons; decipher the symbolism of the special position of General Prima's horse relative to Tarragona, and discover an artist - a native of Reus, whose paintings are kept in the best museums in the world, including the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. You will also see many picturesque squares: Fortuni, Catalonia, the Market, the Fish market, and others.
