About this experience
You will walk through the most interesting places of the Catalan capital: the medieval Gothic quarter, the artisan Born district, and the bourgeois Eixample. I will tell you how the iconic historical events influenced the residents of these neighborhoods, why Barcelona managed to preserve the decorations of past times in some places, while in others they were completely destroyed. You will feel the contradictory Catalan spirit and see the city in all its architectural diversity.
What to expect
From the Middle Ages to modernism
Our journey through the epochs will begin in the Gothic Quarter, behind the walls of which the townspeople huddled until the mid-19th century. You will see the Cathedral and the Royal Square, stroll through ancient Jewish streets, and learn about the traditions of medieval Catalans. Then we will jump into the era of modernism. I will tell you how the nouveau riches of Barcelona at the end of the 19th century lived and tried to outdo each other in originality. You will walk through the affluent Eixample district and see the houses of famous architects in the Art Nouveau style.
Sagrada Familia and El Born
We will arrive at the Sagrada Familia, where you will decipher the secret signs encrypted on the facades by Gaudí and the symbolic meaning of biblical stories on the walls. I will tell you about the construction process of the famous temple and the stages the great construction of the century went through. Next, we will dive into the artisan Barcelona in El Born. We will walk along the famous Rambla street and talk about its history. We will enjoy arias at the Liceu theater and admire the work of artist Miró. We will turn to the Güell Palace, one of Gaudí's early masterpieces, and taste Catalan delicacies at the Boqueria market.
