The first attraction of the Military-Georgian Road that cannot be missed is the giant Zhinvali reservoir, whose secrets are guarded by the surrounding mountains. In the Middle Ages, the city of Zhinvali thrived here with fortresses and palaces - today, during the water level drop period, only the dome of an ancient temple is visible. You will learn about the inhabitants of Zhinvali and the creation of the reservoir.

Beauty and history of Ananuri fortress
A little further along the way, above the reservoir, stands the 16th-century citadel of Ananuri. It shielded the retreat into the mountains and protected people from different regions of Georgia fleeing the enemy. This castle attracts both travelers and locals who come to Ananuri with their children to tell tales of brave knights. You will also hear about the feats remembered by these walls and admire the harmonious landscapes.

Lunch with legendary khinkali and meeting of two rivers
After enjoying the first part of the picturesque road, we will stop for lunch at a small authentic restaurant. You will see how the most authentic Georgian khinkali are prepared and taste them. Nearby, you will see the confluence of two rivers - the White and Black Aragvi, whose names truly match their colors, and the waters flow for a long time without mixing.

Arch of Friendship - far from politics, but close to everyone
Of course, we will not miss the stunning viewing platform at the Arch of Friendship between the peoples of Georgia and Russia. I will tell you about the creation and significance of this monument at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level. I will also show you places where there are almost no tourists - you will see idyllic mountain views with a small lake and grazing sheep and horses.

Gergeti Church - higher than the mountains is only faith
Finally, you will see the view of Mount Kazbek! We will stop in the village of Stepantsminda at the foot of the extinct volcano, which Georgians call Mkinvarcveri - 'mountain with an icy peak'. I will tell you about the fate of this place, and together we will climb to the Gergeti Trinity Church, whose ascetic beauty complements the mountain landscapes. The climate here is harsh, so the monastery built in its conditions seems like an incredible miracle. Or does it? You will decide for yourself.
