About this experience
During the car tour, we will visit the most beautiful places in Georgia in the picturesque region of Kakheti, famous for its historical and religious landmarks and, of course, wonderful wines that you can enjoy.
There are many legends about Kakheti, but what is the truth? This is the homeland of cultural winemaking, winemaking has been practiced here for over 6000 years, the Georgian word "gvino" practically means wine in all languages, and along the Alazani Valley, there were anti-aircraft artillery batteries...
What to Expect
- The day will start with a trip to Telavi, where we will pass through the picturesque Gombori Pass (1620 m.). Telavi, known as the home of Mimino, is famous for its wines, Kakhetian color, and beautiful architecture, which is especially pleasant to admire after the restoration.
- Not far from Telavi is the village of Tsinandali, the name itself sounds like a song. Here, in the museum of Prince Alexander Chavchavadze (Griboyedov's father-in-law), you will try the famous wine of the same name and learn about the methods of Kakhetian winemaking.
- Next, you will visit the picturesque monastery complex and fortress of Alaverdi (11th century). The cathedral in the fortress was the tallest in Georgia until the beginning of the 21st century and was famous for its frescoes. You will understand why the complex has had and continues to have great importance in the social and religious life of Kakheti.
- If you wish, we will visit the famous Shumi winery, where a sommelier will talk about winemaking and conduct a tasting.
- You will then arrive in the wonderful city of love, Sighnaghi, which after restoration has become reminiscent of a fairytale place. You will walk along the fortress wall, from where you can admire wonderful views of the Alazani Valley and the mountains of the Greater Caucasus Range, and then wander through the romantic streets of the Old Town. Memories of visiting Sighnaghi will surely be one of the most pleasant in your journey through Georgia.
- We will also visit the women's Bodbe Monastery, where the enlightener of Georgia, the holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Nino, is buried, thanks to whom our country became Christian in 319.
