Juta and Kazbek: Reconnecting with Nature
About this experience
You will witness nature that words cannot describe! You will marvel at the turquoise expanse of Jinvali Lake, the merging of mountain rivers, breathtaking views in Gudauri and at the Friendship Arch, the snowy cap of Kazbek, and the unspoiled nature in Juta. And of course, the man-made landmarks — Ananuri Fortress and Gergeti Church. I will also share the history, legends, customs, and peculiarities of each place along our journey.
What to Expect
Jinvali Lake, Ananuri Fortress, and the Confluence of Mountain Rivers
From Tbilisi, passing by Mtskheta, you will head to Jinvali Reservoir and Ananuri Fortress, which protected the entrance to the Aragvi Gorge in the Middle Ages and served as the residence of the Aragvi dukes. These places will enchant you with the harmony of azure waters and the majestic stone castle! Further along the Military-Georgian Road, you will reach the confluence of two mountain rivers at the village of Pasanauri and observe how they flow side by side without mixing.
Viewpoints in Gudauri and Friendship Arch
The Gudauri serpentine road will lead you to the popular resort of Gudauri, whose views are impressive year-round. Extraordinary panoramas await you throughout the journey, but we will specifically stop at a viewpoint from Soviet times, where you can admire the views of the deep Caucasus mountain gorge. In this part of the trip, you will also visit a mineral travertine spring.
The Legendary Guardian Kazbek
Through the Cross Pass and the Terek Gorge, you will arrive in the village of Stepantsminda — usually, Mount Mkinvartsveri is already visible from here. However, the best view of the great peak awaits you in Gergeti. By ascending by jeep to the Holy Trinity Church, you will learn about the history of this church and the peculiarities of the local nature. And, of course, you will touch the eternity and amazing harmony of nature and human creation!
Juta and Chaukhi: Up into the Mountains
Juta is a high-mountain village in the Sno Gorge, rarely visited by tourists. Here, I will talk about Georgian mountaineering and the pristine nature of one of Georgia's highest settlements. From Juta, you can optionally hike to the alpine camp (400m; about 20 minutes) and to Chaukhi Massif (about 4km; 1.5 hours) — here, magnificent landscapes and natural idyll await you once again!
