Travel along the picturesque Military Georgian Road to the heart of the Caucasus Mountains — to one of the largest peaks in the region. Along the way, explore the history of the medieval citadel of Ananuri on the shore of Zhinvali Reservoir. See the Arch of Friendship in Gudauri. And of course, admire Georgia's most famous 'postcard' — the church in Gergeti against the backdrop of Kazbek.
What to Expect
Ananuri Fortress. We will depart from Tbilisi along a scenic road. The first stop will be a 16th-century monument. Learn about the history of the northern outpost of the defense of the Transcaucasia and enjoy the views of Zhinvali Reservoir.
Monastery of the Holy Fathers. Next on the itinerary is a secluded corner of nature, where a holy abode is hidden. Immerse yourself in the rich history of the monastery and enjoy the picturesque surroundings. Here you can also taste some excellent local honey.
Gudauri. At the ski resort, you will see the Arch of Friendship of Peoples towering above the valleys. Lunch is scheduled around 1:00 PM at a local restaurant.
Kazbek and Gergeti Trinity Church. You will feel the air getting fresher as you approach the mountain. Appreciate the majestic landscapes of the area. Upon arriving in the main city of the region, Stepantsminda, you will be greeted with a stunning view of the ancient church on the hill.
If you wish, you can hike up to the church in a local jeep — the ascent will take approximately 15 minutes. Those who choose not to go will have free time to explore the surroundings.
Logistical Details
- Transfer on a comfortable Mercedes Sprinter minibus and guided assistance are included in the price
- Additional expenses: jeep ride to the Gergeti monastery (optional) — 20 lari per person, lunch — 25-30 lari per person
- Depending on the composition of the participants, the tour may be conducted in two languages simultaneously — Russian and English
