About this experience
Jerusalem, known as the 'city surrounded by mountains,' was how King David described his capital in the Book of Psalms. Empires have since disappeared, rulers have changed multiple times, but the mountains, as always, evoke awe. I will guide you through the narrow streets of ancient quarters, share the history of Jerusalem from the times of King David and Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent to the present day, and show you the main monuments of the past. You will see the Western Wall, visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and trace the steps of Jesus Christ.
What to Expect
Mystery of the Ancient East
We will meet at the Jaffa Gate leading to the Old City. We will pass through all its quarters: Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and Armenian, and see many landmarks, including the Western Wall, of course.
In our program:
- Renaissance-era city walls
- Ancient Cardo Street, a Roman-era street excavated during the restoration of the Jewish Quarter in the 1970s.
- Tower of David - a fortress now housing the Jerusalem history museum. I will tell you legends about the citadel and its cultural role in the city's life.
- House of Mark the Evangelist, friend and companion of the Apostle Paul, where the world's oldest hand-painted icon is kept, and Mamluk houses of remarkable architecture.
- Israel's symbol - the golden menorah, a replica of the famous lampstand taken by Roman legionnaires from the Jerusalem Temple. And the thrice-destroyed and restored Hurva synagogue.
Promised Land
We will partially walk along Via Dolorosa, the path Jesus Christ took to the crucifixion site according to Christian tradition, and visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. I will tell you about the sacred landmarks and show cult relics. And to view the Old City from a bird's eye view, we will ascend to an observation deck with a stunning view of the ancient quarters and see the Western Wall in the distance.
