About this experience
The Old City of Jerusalem contains such a fundamental layer of world culture that exploring its quarters can take more than a day. But even during our three-hour walk, you will manage to immerse yourself in the history of the 'Cradle of Three Religions' and explore the most significant places of the city - from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to the stations of the Via Dolorosa and Mount Zion. I will try to make sure that even a short journey through Jerusalem becomes a special spiritual experience for you.
What to Expect
Key Sites of the Old City
During the tour, we will cover the main attractions of the Old City: you will hear the history of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, see the Western Wall and the Temple Mount, and walk through the unique Muslim, Christian, Jewish, and Armenian quarters. It is here that it is best to talk about the fate of Jerusalem, which has become the 'Cradle of Three Religions'. Then we will plan the route to capture the ancient city's shrines that will be of particular interest to you.
First Route: Walk through Northern Jerusalem
If you decide to explore the northern part of the city, we will walk through the stations of the Via Dolorosa and explore the iconic landmarks of the Christian and Muslim quarters. We will stop at the Church of St. Alexander Nevsky and the Basilica of St. Anne, built by the Crusaders in honor of the Virgin Mary's mother. Besides, you will pass through the Lion's and Damascus Gates, encounter the Orthodox Church of the House of the Virgin Mary's Birth, and may peek into the mysterious Tears of King Hezekiah Cave, associated with the legend of the last Jewish king. Finally, you will reach the Garden Tomb, which some Christians regard as the true burial place of Jesus Christ.
Second Route: Shrines of the Southern Part of the City
A walk through southern Jerusalem will take us to Mount Zion, where you will see some of the most revered places of the city - the Cenacle of the Last Supper and the Tomb of King David. We will pass through the Jewish and Armenian quarters, bypass the Jaffa Gate, and from a panoramic platform on the rooftops, you will have a truly impressive view of Jerusalem. Along the way, if you wish, we can visit the Tower of David, ancient Sephardic synagogues, or turn onto the Cardo street, where you will immerse yourself in the Jerusalem life of the Roman era.
