About this experience
During the tour, I will talk about the architectural monuments of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, executed in the modernist style, more precisely, its Italian version - the so-called 'Liberty'.
Most travelers go to Rome in search of picturesque ruins of antiquity or the luxury of the Baroque. Some, on the contrary, prefer to stroll in the hot noon, entering churches to admire examples of early Christian art or Baroque art. Enthusiasts of everything grand and monumental can enjoy the monuments built during Mussolini's totalitarian regime. And few notice or rarely reach the beautiful modernist architecture.
What to expect
We will go to one of the most beautiful districts of Rome - Trieste, a district of foreign embassies, bankers' residences, notaries, and lawyers, where respectability and cool tranquility reign. It is in this part of Rome that a first-class example of Liberty style architecture is preserved - an ensemble built by one of the most famous architects of the era - Gino Coppede. After exploring the 'Coppede district', we will visit Villa Torlonia, where another remarkable monument of Italian Liberty is located - the Casina delle Civette ('House of the Owls'), and on the way, we will see several other interesting mansions.
If desired, at the end of the walk, you can visit the 'House of the Owls' at Villa Torlonia, where there are Liberty interiors and about 50 stained glass windows.
Organizational details
- Public transport tickets and entrance to the 'House of the Owls' museum (5 euros per person) are not included in the price. The museum is open from 9 am to 7 pm, closed on Mondays.
- Recommendations: make sure your camera battery is charged and there is plenty of free space on the memory card. Wear comfortable shoes for walking, and if it's hot, a water bottle is a must!

Chic Liberty/Modern style district in Rome. It was very pleasant to walk through it with Marina, not boring at all, lively storytelling in a free style. The house with owls is beautiful. I realized that I would go on Marina's tour on Mussolini as well, as this theme is of special interest to him.
