About this experience
Barcelona is a city of modernism. I invite you not only to see for yourself the unusual, sometimes fantastic forms of modernist buildings but also to learn about the history of modernism in general.
Itinerary
- During the walking tour, we will stroll through Barcelona's “Golden Square.” You will be able to compare the works of the most famous and lesser-known architects of the Modernist era. You will learn why in Barcelona, like mushrooms after rain, astonishingly dissimilar buildings suddenly began to appear at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries; where the “Indians” in the county town came from, turning into barons and marquises, and how one of the seven deadly sins changed the appearance of Barcelona.
- Then we will step outside the “Golden Square” to discover Modernist style houses that are often unnoticed, as they are located in places that are hard to reach without the help of someone who knows their city well. Additionally, I will make these houses “come alive” before you, telling fascinating, sometimes poignant stories of their owners’ lives. For example, would you like to know the role a woman played in the construction of the famous La Pedrera? Or what connection do four cats have to modernism? And much more.
Organizational Details
- As it is a walking tour (we may use public transport if necessary), comfortable footwear is essential.
- The tour is scheduled for 4 hours, but if desired, the time frame can be extended, for example, if you wish to visit one of Gaudi's houses or the Modernism museum.
- The cost of museum tickets is not included in the tour price.
