What to Expect
Stroll through the most beautiful corners of Rome
I will guide you through the labyrinths of picturesque streets and introduce you to the brightest masterpieces of Roman Baroque, without which Rome is unimaginable. You will walk through the elegant Piazza del Popolo and admire its amazing temples. Descend the famous Spanish Steps to Bernini's boat-shaped fountain in the square where centuries ago Romans danced. Immersed in the hustle and bustle of Roman life, we will walk past famous boutiques, enjoy the aroma of the Greek Coffee House, and make a wish at the legendary Trevi Fountain. And, of course, we will examine the works of the brilliant Bernini and Borromini at the luxurious Piazza Navona.
Evolution of Roman Baroque
You will learn about the formation of Roman Baroque in the 17th century, its specifics, and main representatives. I will help you note the main features of Baroque architecture: theatricality and a desire to amaze, peculiarities of painting, sculpture, and decorative elements. We will talk about the lives and work of the main masters of Baroque architecture - Bernini and Borromini, who constantly competed with each other. You will admire the intricate facades of the Church of Saint Agnes, Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza, and other gems of Roman Baroque. You will learn how the masterful fountains of Trevi, Triton, and the Four Rivers were created, and understand the symbolism embedded in the sculptures.
