About this experience
During the guided tour, you will get acquainted with the main architectural monuments and shrines of Kutaisi, hear many interesting stories about the history and traditions of the city, and enjoy the alluring atmosphere of past centuries.
Program
- The guided tour of the capital of western Georgia, Kutaisi, will start with a visit to the Bagrati Cathedral (XI c.) - the city's landmark. This magnificent cathedral, decorated with carvings and mosaics, played an exceptional role in the medieval history of Georgia. David IV the Builder was crowned here.
- After visiting the cathedral, we will go to the Museum of History and Ethnography and take a stroll through old Kutaisi, which has preserved its medieval appearance and atmosphere.
- You will visit a spring arranged in a sheer cliff by ancient rulers over a thousand years ago, which is accessed by a secret passage. From here, in the Middle Ages, people took water, and it was one of the main water pipelines of the city.
- After lunch, we will head to the Motsameta Monastery (IX c.), where the remains of the defenders of Imereti from the Arab invasion - the princes Mkhedze - are buried.
- We will also visit the Gelati Monastery (XII c.), founded by David the Builder.
- The excursion will end with dinner at a restaurant with national color.
