About this experience
You will visit all the most impressive places of Imereti: the region's capital, the Gelati and Motsameta monasteries, the Sataplia Reserve. You will float on a boat through an ancient cave, be impressed by fantastic stalactites and stalagmites, hear the legends of Colchis, and taste local wines, cheeses, and sweet bread.
What to expect
Historic center of Kutaisi and Bagrati Cathedral
Kutaisi is the main city of Imereti, the ancient center of the Georgian statehood and the capital of ancient Colchis, with a history of over 4000 years. You will stroll through the streets of the Old Town and throw a coin into the Colchis Fountain. Next, you will visit the Bagrati Cathedral, which can be seen from any point in Kutaisi. Built on the Cathedral Hill at the turn of the X-XI centuries, it will impress you with its grandeur, elegant carvings, and mosaics. I will tell you under which ruler the cathedral was built, who was crowned here, and why it played an exceptional role in the medieval history of Georgia.
Gelati and Motsameta Monasteries
We will visit the Gelati monastery complex, located on top of the mountain. Founded by the holy king David IV the Builder in 1006, it became the burial place of Georgian kings and a cult place for pilgrims. Next, you will visit the 9th-century Motsameta monastery, where the remains of the defenders of Imereti from the Arab invasion, the princes of Mkheidze, rest. You will be impressed by the picturesque location where it is situated - on a high cliff, in the gorge of the Tskhaltsitela River. The monastery includes the domed Annunciation Church, a bell tower, two towers, and monks' cells.
Prometheus Cave and Sataplia Reserve
Our next destination is the Prometheus Cave in the northwest of Kutaisi. You will explore picturesque caverns, glide on a boat along a real underground river, and see breathtaking stalactites, stalagmites, waterfalls, and even a whole lake. You will continue to interact with the amazing nature in the Sataplia Reserve, which translates as the

But now, looking through my booking history on Tripster, I'm happy to do it even two years later! The tour with David turned out to be p...
