What to Expect
Gelati - Georgia's main medieval monastery
On the way to Kutaisi, you will be greeted by the medieval Gelati Monastery - the most important monument of Georgian architecture. Since the 12th century, Gelati has been the center of spiritual, scientific, and cultural life, a place of pilgrimage. In this historical-architectural complex, you will see the main building of the monastery, the bell tower, the church, and the 12th-century academy founded by the great Georgian king David the Builder. I will tell you about his life and destiny, as well as about those times when the monastery housed the richest library, about outstanding people who pursued science here, and about the monastery's legends.
Motsameta - monastery above the turbulent river
In the distance, among the tree crowns, high above the Rioni River, round towers with sharp conical domes can be seen - this is the Motsameta Monastery, which translates as "martyrs." According to legend, it was built at the place where Georgian princes Mkheidze, who refused to accept Islam, were executed. In the monastery, you will see the relics of these Georgian saints, learn the history of those days, and ancient beliefs.
Colorful cave
One of the highlights of the whole Imereti region is the Kumistavi Caves, discovered in the late 20th century. Only a tenth of the cave is open to travelers, but a walk through it takes a whole hour. Here, you will find a boat that will take you on a ride along underground rivers, where bats fly high above. You will examine the intricate arches of the cave, learn about the underground world of the region, and the difference between stalactites and stalagmites. The cave adventure is accompanied by classical music and the illumination of liquid crystal lamps, creating an amazingly magical atmosphere.

However, the tour to the Prometheus Caves seemed very chaotic to us, but this is not the fault of our guide, but rather an issue on the host side. In general, I can recommend the tour to those who are willing to s...

Amazing tour! David is an excellent guide, telling about his country and culture with respect. Very charming and pleasant to communicate with. Apparently, we will come back to Georgia next year because we really want to see everything David talked about with such love.
