About this experience
What buildings, plots, and images come to mind when mentioning Istanbul? Join me on a walk through the most famous places of the capital of three empires! You will see Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the underground Basilica Cistern, and the Suleymaniye Mosque. I will tell you their rich history and help understand what modern city life is like.
What to Expect
Landmarks of Istanbul
You will see the iconic attractions of the city and hear the most interesting facts about them. The program includes:
- Hagia Sophia - the symbol of the "Golden Age" of Byzantium. Built in 537 AD, it remained the largest Christian church in the world until the construction of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. I will show its famous and secret corners.
- Basilica Cistern - one of the largest and well-preserved ancient underground water reservoirs, resembling a whole palace complex. You will see the head of Medusa Gorgon and uncover the technical secrets of the cistern.
- Blue Mosque - the most important mosque in Istanbul. You will see the tomb of Sultan Ahmed and learn when, by whom, and for what purpose the mosque was built.
- Suleymaniye Mosque - the symbol of the eternal love of Suleiman the Magnificent and his wife Hurrem. Inside, you will see the tombs where Sultan Suleiman, Hurrem, their daughter Mihrimah, and other family members are buried.
